At HCM (Hertfordshire College of Music) we offer Level 2 and Level 3 Music Practitioner Full-Time Diploma qualifications for learners who want to develop their skills within the music industry. Our Music Performance course focuses on learning real music industry skills with an eye on how to pursue a musical career in the future.
These bespoke music qualifications are awarded by Rockschool (RSL) – a globally recognised popular music awarding body and are fully accredited.
Every single unit at Level 2 and 3 has been specifically created to address the needs of the modern music industry. Alternatively, students can progress onto University after completing a Music Practitioner Qualification at Level 3 which carries UCAS Points. All assessments are based on coursework (units) rather than exams.
With constant support we encourage all of our students to strive to achieve the best results possible and to learn all of the crucial elements needed to be a success in the music industry. All HCM tutors are music industry professionals themselves with many years of experience. They will act as coach, role model and mentor to students maintaining consistently high standards for all students to aspire to.What will I learn?
We teach you to have a portfolio style career based around areas such as performance, music technology, event management, songwriting and aspects of music business, to name but a few.
We provide our Music Diploma courses at three campuses, Ware, Letchworth (in partnership with North Hertfordshire College) and Milton Keynes (in partnership with Milton Keynes College). All our campuses comprise of fully equipped rehearsal rooms, performance areas, lecture theatre and iMac suites.
Guitarists/Bassists are expected to bring their own instruments, however at HCM we work closely with leading manufacturers in the industry so you will have access to Orange, Marshall, Line 6, Vox, and Peavey Amps, Roland TD and Yamaha DTX drum kits, Yamaha digital pianos, Shure, AKG & Lewitt mics, as well as a whole range of industry leading product and software including Logic.
The Level 2 & 3 Music Performance diplomas are suitable for guitarists, bassists, vocalists, drummers and keyboard/piano players.
We look for learners who are passionate about music and love to play, but are open to improving their technique and skills as a musician.
Learners are expected to embrace new genres and styles and work towards becoming not only an all round musician, but one who also has a much broader understanding of the industry as a whole.
HCM have an excellent reputation in developing young musicians and preparing them for work or continuing their education.
Many students have gone on to develop their careers via specialist music universities. Some students have become working musicians, some have gone on to teach their chosen instrument and many have moved into other areas of the Music Industry.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE COURSES FOR LEVEL 2 AND LEVEL 3 DIPLOMAS
Our Music Performance courses are vocational qualifications at Level 2 and 3 awarded by Rockschool (RSL). They are designed for students who want to develop their music performance skills and gain a broader understanding of the music industry.

EMP COURSES FOR LEVEL 2 AND LEVEL 3 DIPLOMAS
The Electronic Music Producer (EMP) course takes place over three 10 week terms and is perfect if you want to be a Remixer, DJ, MC, Rapper, Beatboxer or Urban Songwriter.
Covering the following music styles: Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Rap, House, Garage, Grime, Dub Step and Glitch. Our fully equipped tuition suites provide all you need to drop your next beat.
Courses are taught using Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.
