Music Performance

Our Music Performance diploma courses are vocational qualifications for post-GCSE 16-19 year olds at Level 2 and 3 awarded by Rockschool (RSL). They are designed for students who want to develop their music performance skills and gain a broader understanding of the music industry. Our diploma courses are an alternative to sixth form or other college based courses. We are a specialist Music College with strong links within the music industry. We hope to inspire and develop the musical aspirations of our students.

  • Roland V Drums, Yamaha DTX Kits and Mapex and Yamaha Acoustic Kits.

Music Performance COURSE DETAILS

  • Enhance the Performance skills on your instrument
  • Rehearse and display strong musicianship skills
  • Develop set lists within a group environment
  • Frequently rehearse and perform live music effectively
  • Learn the historical issues relating to musical styles
  • Gain an understanding of music technology

Level 2

MUSIC COURSE SUMMARY

This is a globally recognised Music qualification. The music diploma course contains specific units related to career options within the Music Industry. It offers an introduction to a variety of areas of the music industry from performing and composing through to music technology and aspects of the music business. The qualification aims to equip learners for progression to Further and Higher Education e.g. our RSL Level 3 Diploma for Music Practitioners, through a diverse range of practical, industry-relevant skills.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THE COURSE?

The course offers many units based around the music industry including:

  • Learning to perform effectively on your chosen instrument
  • Rehearsal and performance skills including performing live
  • Understanding relevant aspects of music technology
  • Composing and arranging music

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There is no final exam. Each module is assessed either on an individual or group basis depending upon the assignment. There is both practical and written coursework as well as opportunities to take Graded Instrumental Exams.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

There are no additional kit costs associated with the course. There will, however, be enrolment fees to pay which will cover trips and enrichment activities. You will also be expected to purchase the relevant Instrumental Grade Book as needed.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Progression is to a Level 3 Music Diploma for Music Practitioners / Level 3 Extended Diploma for Music Practitioners. Other Music, Performing Arts and Media pathways are also options.

Level 3

COURSE SUMMARY

The Level 3 music performance course is designed to enable students to master industry ready skills in diverse disciplines from performing and composing through to music technology and music business. You will develop advanced performance and musicianship skills at this level. The Level 3 music Diploma leads to a deeper understanding of the music industry and requires a more descriptive, analytical and evaluative approach.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THE COURSE?

The course offers many units based around the music industry including:

  • Similar units to Level 2 but to a much more in depth level of understanding
  • Understanding musical styles and influences from the history of contemporary music
  • Setting up back-line for live and studio sound
  • Recording skills
  • Music Event Management
  • Improvisation skills

 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There is no final exam. Each module is assessed either on an individual or group basis depending upon the assignment. There is both practical and written coursework as well as opportunities to take Graded Instrumental Exams.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

There are no additional kit costs associated with the course. There will, however, be enrolment fees to pay which will cover trips and enrichment activities. You will also be expected to purchase the relevant Instrumental Grade Book as needed.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of Level 3 you have the opportunity to:

  • Progress to a Foundation music degree, Honours music degree or further training in a music or music business related discipline
  • Employment within the music business,
  • Progress to the second year of study to achieve a Level 3 Extended music Diploma

Level 3 Ext.

COURSE SUMMARY

Building on core skills gained in Level 3 Year 1 you will develop rehearsal, performance, audition, lead performer and musicianship skills. You will learn about being a session musician, artist and event management, and many more aspects of the music business.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THE COURSE?

The course offers many units based around the music industry including:

  • Similar units to Level 3 Year 1 but to a much more in depth level of understanding
  • Master-classes and workshops taught by industry professionals
  • How to maximise your earning potential within the music industry

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There is no final exam. Each module is assessed either on an individual or group basis depending upon the assignment. There is both practical and written coursework as well as opportunities to take Graded Instrumental Exams.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

There are no additional kit costs associated with the course. There will, however, be enrolment fees to pay which will cover trips and enrichment activities. You will also be expected to purchase the relevant Instrumental Grade Book as needed.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of Level 3 Extended Diploma you have the opportunity to:

  • Progression to a Foundation Degree, Honours degree or further training in a music or music business related discipline
  • Employment within the music business

Can I get involved in other activities?

All students are encouraged to sit RSL Instrumental Graded Examinations on their chosen instrument. Our enrichment programme includes industry-based educational visits, live performance opportunities and master classes by professionals working in the industry. We also arrange music industry based work experience for students as well as passing on any enquires we get from the public requesting musicians for events.
